Poipet Transit and Rehabilitation Center for Victims Focusing On Protecting Victims of Human Trafficking

Banteay Meanchey: The Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, Mr. Chea Somethy, said that the inauguration of the Poipet Transit and Rehabilitation Center for victims is a testament to the new progress and achievements in the field of social affairs, veterans and youth rehabilitation focusing on the protection of victims of human trafficking.

Mr. Chea Somethy said this at the inauguration ceremony of Poipet Transit and Rehabilitation Center for Victims under the high presidency of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, Sar Sokha, high Representative of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hun Manet in Poipet, Banteay Meanchey Province on Monday morning, December 18, 2023.

The Minister of Social Affairs further stated that the new achievement of this shelter is also in response to the policy program of the Royal Government of the 7th legislature of the National Assembly "For the construction and defense of the motherland 2023-2028" and the first phase of the Pentagon Strategy for the growth of employment, equity, efficiency and sustainability, build the foundation to achieve the vision of Cambodia by 2050."

At the same time, Mr. Chea Somethy stated that the establishment and construction of new infrastructure of Poipet Transit and Rehabilitation Center is a measure that shows the attention of the Royal Government of Cambodia in implementing policies, strategic plans and programs aims to provide protection and support to the needs of victims of human trafficking through the provision of appropriate services to prevent all forms of human trafficking in the country and across borders, especially to assist victims through rehabilitation, integration and protection Victims' rights in line with the actual development situation of Cambodia and the needs at hand.

He also mentioned that the Poipet Transit and Rehabilitation Center for Victims was established with the aim of providing temporary accommodation, food, health care, education, vocational training, and life skills to the vulnerable and vulnerable. Safe human trafficking and no discrimination or disability.

The Minister further stated that through the cooperation between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation has received a grant from the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand through the International Cooperation Agency of the Kingdom of Thailand (TICA) of Poipet Transit and Rehabilitation Center for Victims building to help victims of human trafficking, which was built at a cost of 2.2 million USD on a total area of 9768 square meters, located in Prachea Thom East Village, Orussey commune, Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province.

The Poipet Transit and Rehabilitation Center for Victims was inaugurated on September 28, 2023 at the Peace Palace under the presidency of Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Hun Manet and Mr. Srettha Thavisin, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, which is celebrating the official inauguration on this occasion.
